tapestry dress 2023-2024

This dress was freehand crocheted using mostly scrap yarn from a sweater I made for a friend.

It was my first time trying tapestry crochet, and I’ll admit it became way too challenging for a first project. It totally fried my brain for a while.

So I took a very long break in the middle of this, during which I picked up weaving again and practiced the crochet technique on a few other pieces. When I came back to it, it still fried my brain. But it’s done now!

You can find the full process on Instagram.

For years I was unable to find my perfect backpack, so I decided to make it.

I wove the body of the bag in one piece around a cardboard box, then made the flap on a separate piece of cardboard.

The straps are sewn and stuffed with yarn scrap, the mesh pocket and trims are crochet.

purse, 2023

Before I made my backpack, I made a purse to test out my idea.

I wove the purse in one piece, including the flap. You can see more of that process in my carboard loom weaving guide (coming soon).

sweater, 2022

This is the first sweater I ever made! I used the large surface area as an opportunity to learn new stitches and practice switching colors. I found all of this great yarn second hand in a local shop.

For the buttons, I made these cute little toggles out of sticks and then burned some leaves onto them.
